Obelisk, Cricket Green, Mitcham
The faded inscription on the obelisk, dated 1822, quotes a biblical passage on water flowing out of a rock; in the fading evening light I could not make out the full inscription but I assume it marks a landmark in provision of drinking water to the village of Mitcham.

Madeira Road forms part of the route of the A239 road in Mitcham, in the suburbs of south London.
This image was taken in the early afternoon on a day in early January, when the sun was low in the sky. Trees were bare and casting long shadows.
