The Toby Carvery in South Croydon. This pub is located on Brighton Road, the name of the road indicating that it was once a main road heading south to Brighton. The road is still a busy suburban road through Croydon, but the main A23 London-to-Brighton road now bypasses Croydon.

Former South Croydon Convalescent Home for Children, now South Croydon Business Centre
The South Croydon Convalescent Home for Children was founded in 1880 by Mrs Harriet Sturt, at an address in Chelsham Road: it moved to these premises in 1890, the building being opened by Lady Beatrix Herbert. Aftercare following an illness or operation was not a service offered by the hospitals of the time and this home provided it for a small subscription. Its original clientele was middle-class but organisations such as the Waifs and Strays (now the Children's Society) might also send a poorer child there to recover. See http://ezitis.myzen.co.uk/southcroydonconv.html. The building as a whole can be seen at Image
