Croydon: Factory Lane waste disposal site
Croydon operates two large-scale depots for the collection of various categories of recyclable waste: Purley Oaks (Image) is the other. Factory Lane is the larger since it also receives all the waste collected on doorsteps by Croydon's refusal disposal trucks. It can be seen from further off in Image

Croydon: Gasholder
This gasholder, which is of the classic type with side-running pulleys, and one other of a more modern type, are the only visible remnants of Croydon's large gas works. The gasworks, however, were not on the north side of the railway (now tram line) but on the south side, where Sainsbury's, Mothercare etc. have now been built. Just the two gasholders were north of the line.
