87 High Street, Kelvedon
This was the parsonage for the chapel whose name board may just be seen on the other corner of New Road. It seems to date from about 1900. Previously there was a 'Manse' mapped here in the 1870s, but a later mapping in the 1890s shows a vacant site, so this is presumably a replacement. Beyond is a Co-op Foodstore.

The blue plaque is on 71 High Street. This commemorates the birth place of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, 1834 - 1892, the non-conformist preacher extraordinaire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Spurgeon . 71 and 73, (the near end) were originally one house. A grade II listed building, 18th century, altered 19th century. The rest of this row, 65 - 69 (odds) was also originally one house of similar age and is also grade II listed. The two far buildings are also grade II listed, but the building to let (as shop/office) is not.
