The Balkerne Gate is the largest Roman gateway surviving in the U.K. It was built about 70AD as the western entrance through the Roman Wall which rebuilt after Queen Boudica led a rebellion of the Iceni which had destroyed Camulodunum (modern Colchester) in AD 60.
