Market Hill, Maldon (2)
View downhill towards Fullbridge, and the bridge across the River Chelmer.
The wrought-iron hand-rails in the foreground (flanking the steps to somebody's front-door) are typical of Market Hill. Whether they are 18th-century originals or a later replacement in similar style I can't say.

All Saints church and war memorial
This church is quite unique in having a tower that is triangular, dating back to the 13th century. Externally the nave was rebuilt in 1728 but internally it still shows 14th century material. On the south aisle wall there is lavish arcading that was built in 1340. The chancel and north chapel is 15th century and there is also a 14th century crypt. It is a very interesting church and well worth a visit.

Maldon town centre from across the River Blackwater
Sharp eyed viewers may be able to pick out two adjacent church towers at the crest of the hill. (Enlarge the picture if you can) The square tower is all that is left of the medieval church of St Peter. This, and its attached new building, is occupied by The Thomas Plume Library. To the right of the square tower is the slender spire atop the unique triangular tower of All Saints church. See also
