The Flitch Way starts here next to Braintree Station where a set of buffers terminates the old line from Liverpool Street on the old London to Bishop's Stortford Railway.

Strange sculptures, Braintree
The one on the right is not so strange, it is carved from wood to tell us we are entering the John Ray Park. There a lot of information inscribed beneath. On top is what seems to be a representation of hawthorn leaves and berries. The pillar on the left is a different matter. It is a grotesque pile of stones and strange animal forms.

The end of the line, Braintree
The old route through to Bishop's Stortford now finishes here. Plates on posts at the left indicate that 4, 8 and 12 car trains should pull right up to the stops. It came as a shock to find that provision is now made for 12 car trains on this once sleepy branch. The station cat has a wash while waiting for the next train.
