The front of the college on Dunmow Road. Hockerill College began in 1852 as the Rochester Diocesan training college for elementary schoolmistresses. In 1940 much of the site was destroyed by a German air raid, restoration being completed in time for the centenary in 1952. The college closed in 1978, reopened as a co-educational boarding school for Essex from 1980-1994, and is now the Anglo-European College which welcomes students from over the world to study for the International Baccalaureate. www.hockerill.herts.sch.uk
