Southminster railway station building
View from car park. Southminster station was opened by the Great Eastern Railway in 1889. It is now the terminus of the Crouch Valley Line, trains go to Wickford and occasionally through to London Liverpool Street. The role of the station building would have been much more important in the past, now the station house has been converted for use by community organisations.

End of the line
Southminster Station in July 1970 (exact day unknown). Even then this still had the air of a rural station, including the porter's trolley. The ticket office had gone however, and the station would have been unstaffed by then, with tickets being sold on the train.

Southminster station, 1978
View southward from the end of the platform. This is the terminus of the Crouch Valley branch from Wickford, electrified (25-kv Overhead) in 5/86, so, perhaps, eight years earlier, the train on the left was a steam push-and-pull. Opinions, please! [??].
