Jug and Bottle, Heswall
The Jug and Bottle pub and hotel was built in the 1870's, originally a private house named Hill House, home to a Liverpool cotton merchant. In 1921 a Major Pooley bought the house, extended and improved it considerably to become a grand family home with its spectacular outlook over the river. In the 1930's it was converted to Council offices before being sold, first as a hotel and then to Bernie Inns in 1992.
