The dedicated officer has held street surgeries at Tesco where it has been highlighted that theft offences have increased. This is also linked to improved bus routes to the area and offenders travelling into the location. Initiatives are taking place with our travel safe partners and the development of a shop link network (funding pending).

Initiatives are taking place with our travel safe partners and the development of a shop link network (funding pending). Officers are utilising both uniform and plain clothes deployments to target thieves in the area and working close with retailers to ensure correct reporting.

Local retailers have reported a recent rise in shop thefts. We’ve also received information that some offenders are travelling into the area using improved bus routes.

Focused high‑visibility patrols in hotspot times/locations.
Plain‑clothes operations with local retailers and security.
Problem‑solving with transport partners (bus operators and hubs) to deter travelling offenders.
Targeted offender management with partner agencies.
Known prolific offenders are being targeted through arrests, bail conditions, banning notices, and Criminal Behaviour Order applications where appropriate.

In addition, concerns have been raised regarding the night-time economy, with associated antisocial behaviour impacting the area. Reports include disorder, intoxication-related incidents, and nuisance behaviour such as shouting, littering, and intimidation, which are affecting both businesses and the wider community.

A coordinated approach is in place to tackle offending, including within the night-time economy:
High-visibility patrols at hotspot locations and peak times, including late-night periods.
Plain-clothes operations with retailers, licensed premises, and security staff.
Partnership work with transport providers to disrupt travelling offenders.
Dedicated NTE activity, including joint patrols with licensing, engagement with venues, and action against alcohol-related ASB and violence.
Targeted offender management with partner agencies to address repeat offenders.
