Rivertown United Reformed Church, Shotton
Originally Rivertown Congregational Church, located in a small corrugated metal building on this site. The first service was held in May 1897. It soon became clear that the building was wholly inadequate for the accommodation of the rapidly increasing number of worshippers. The new building, substantially the one seen here, opened for worship in 1899. It was enlarged in 1911.

Chester Road West, Shotton
This is in effect Shotton's high street with a collection of generally rather lacklustre shops. It is a stretch of the B5129, formerly the A548. Shotton is an ancient Anglo-Saxon name meaning 'farmstead in a clearing' and there is no official Welshified version.
