Birkenhead Maternity Hospital, Grange Mount
This was established in 1846 as the Birkenhead Ladies Charitable Institution and Lying-in [maternity]Hospital. The title of 'Birkenhead Maternity Hospital' started in 1913. I was born here in 1963 and it closed in 1978. This photo was taken in August 1987 and the place was demolished in 2001 for safety reasons, despite being a Grade II listed building. The records of births are now held at the Wirral Museum in Hamilton St, Birkenhead.

Grange Road West Sports Centre
A local sports centre on the outskirts of Birkenhead. The building was originally a territorial army training centre, but was converted to a sports centre in 1969 when the council took ownership. I had to make a small edit on the signpost to remove some bright colours.

Birkenhead Park, Birkenhead (2)
Birkenhead Park, which opened in 1847, was the first publicly-funded park in the country. Instigated by the Birkenhead Improvement Commissioners, the overall plan was conceived by Joseph Paxton, his pupil Edward Kemp supervised work, and John Robertson and Lewis Hornblower designed most of the buildings.
