Rivet bench mark below the water tower in Boughton
Close to the centre of this photo is a damaged rivet bench mark on the canalside wall below the Boughton Water Tower. Above the point of what is left of the arrowhead is a flat rectangular depression cut into the sloping sandstone. The depression would have accepted the levelling staff. See also Image

Shropshire Union Canal
One of Chester's many attractive features is the canal that runs through the city centre, with mooring places for narrowboats. Here, Watertower View terrace is visible on the other side of the canal.

Shropshire Union Canal at Boughton Water Tower
Between Hoole Lane and Chemistry locks, two rows of cottages overlook the canal, Watertower View and in the distance, Tollemache Terrace. Chester Cottage Improvement Company, founded in 1892 by the Duke of Westminster, built Tollemache Terrace in order to help improve social housing.

Bench mark alongside Hoole Lane
This bench mark is on a brick pier alongside Hoole Lane, in between the fork in of the railway line after it leaves Chester station. The footpath that passes the pillar now provides access to a playground and modern housing. See also: Image
