The gates to the former Abbey Gate Independent Primary School after the fire
This redundant school suffered a major fire on the afternoon of the 19th May 2008. Three weeks later some of the dangerous roof timbers have been removed. This view is from Victoria Road, and over the wall to the left is the deep cutting that carries the main North Wales railway line. See also Image

The George and Dragon, Liverpool Road, Chester
The George and Dragon is an old coaching inn built in the Tudor style. The site of the George & Dragon is outside the Porta Decumana, or North Gate and during the Roman occupation was utilised as a burial ground. The Romans, not wishing to waste space within the fortress, always laid their dead to rest outside the defensive walls and this part of the road into Chester would once have been lined with elaborate memorials to departed citizens and soldiers.
The ghost of a Roman soldier is said to pass backwards and forwards through the walls of the George & Dragon.
