The Railway Cocoa Rooms
A Quaker venture into alternative venues in Chester to the pub led them to set up a number of Cocoa Houses. Unfortunately, temperance zeal overcame consumer research and the ventures have long since closed. The fine signs are still preserved though. For a close up of them and some more info. on the Chester Cocoa Houses have a look at this :- http://www.chesterwalls.info/cocoahouses.html And from this site I see that the Italian restaurant which was here when I took this a few months ago has now been replaced by a bar called Kash, run by the Beer Republic. Cue sound of Quakers turning in graves, etc..... It's a good link, with a nice cynical style to it. Give it a look.

Lloyds of Chester (hotel), Station Road
The hotel comprises all the buildings painted in yellow ochre in this view. The furthest part is one of four houses dating from the 1830s that are listed grade II (list entry 1375711); the rest of the hotel is excluded from the listing and dates from c.1900. If Lloyds is too pricey, the Bunkroom (right) probably offers cheaper accommodation.
