The Medieval Roof of the Former St Michaels Church
The former St Michaels Church stands on the site of a 10th century church, although this building has been rebuilt many times, most notably around 1850. In 1975 the building became the first British Heritage Centre and now houses the Chester History and Heritage Centre. Despite the many alterations the building still has a fine 15th century chancel roof, which in this photo is well lit, but also slightly marred by the powerful lights in the lower corners.

The grade II listing (entry 1376103) describes the building as 1889 'probably by Thomas Edwards' on an 18th century undercroft. The unusual feature is the wording 'To God my King and my Country' beneath some Biblical scenes. At one time it was an art gallery, now shops. See Image for context.
