Nant y Parc Primary School, Senghenydd
The school occupies part of the former Universal Colliery site. A memorial http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2920398 beyond the left edge of the view commemorates the Universal Colliery disaster of 1901 when 81 men were killed, and the October 1913 disaster, which killed 439 men.

Mining disasters memorial outside Nant y Parc Primary School, Senghenydd

Foundation Phase building, Nant y Parc Primary School, Senghenydd
The building is located to the east of the main school buildings. From September 2008, the Welsh Assembly Government introduced a new Foundation Phase for children aged 3-7 which places a greater emphasis on learning through experience.

Universal Colliery Disaster Memorial
The original memorial erected in 1981 to those killed in the mining disasters here in 1901 and 1913. The blue plaque on the wall indicates a key point on the Walking Through Time Trail in the Aber Valley.
