Wheel Drums, Hengoed Viaduct, South Wales
The listed Hengoed Viaduct (aka Maesycwmmer) carried the former Great Western Railway's Cross Valleys line over the Rhymney Valley. A cyclepath, part of NCN47, now crosses the viaduct and to commemorate its opening one of Britain's most strikingly distinctive sculptures is in place. Andy Hazell's Wheel Drums is formed of six life-size replicas of coal wagons curved vertically and joined buffer-to-buffer into the shape of a wheel.

Miners wheel
Evans & Bevan, former Welsh Anthracite (coal) mine owners, major employers in the South Wales valleys. Immortalised in this sculpture on the old rail bed at Maesycwmmer. Ocean Coal and Empire Coal, were also large mining companies owning many of the other pits. The Great Western Rail Road, (GWRR) of course, were the transporters of the coal.

Former Zoar Presbyterian Church, Maesycwmmer
Located on the corner of Main Road and Mount Pleasant. The final service here was in December 2008, 102 years after the church had opened for the first time. Formerly, the regular congregation was so large that many worshippers paid for a reserved seat. But in recent times, the congregation had dwindled to fewer than ten, making closure inevitable.
