Quakers Yard (High Level) station (site), Mid Glamorgan
Opened in 1858 by the Great Western Railway on what became a junction of lines from Merthyr, Aberdare, Newport and Abergavenny, this station closed in 1964 and was eventually demolished.
View east towards Treharris, Newport and Abergavenny. The houses sit on the course of the railway, with the station here having 2 parallel platforms. The grey barriers centre left give access to a short path leading to the station's entrance/exit steps which were still extant when this image was taken. Far right is the entrance to the almost adjacent Quakers Yard (Low Level) station, which is still open. When still open, the back of the signal box would have been far left on this image.

Former Great Western Hotel for sale, Edwardsville
At the March 2014 date of this view, there were For Sale boards on the building at the southern end of the street named Edwardsville in the village of Edwardsville. The name engraved over the entrance is GREAT WESTERN HOTEL. A name sign on the right shows GREAT WESTERN ORIENTAL. There is a King George VI postbox in the wall. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3920985
The location is near Quakers Yard railway station which used to be part of a much bigger railway area with two stations and a railway junction. The junction has gone, leaving only one small station.
No doubt the great reduction in railway passengers hereabouts was one factor that led to the demise of the business.
