Pencoed Park & Ride
Opened in June 2011, the 56-space Park & Ride is located near Pencoed Railway Station, viewed from Min-y-Nant. There were several reasons for the creation of the facility, such as reducing inconsiderate parking near the station, reducing the need for drivers to use the level crossing (between the eastbound platform and the westbound platform at the station), and to encourage the use of the railway.

CCTV cameras observing Hendre Road level crossing, Pencoed
The level crossing barriers are remotely controlled, perhaps from Port Talbot or Bridgend.
The cameras are needed to inform the remote control room of any problems
on the level crossing, such as a broken-down vehicle on the railway tracks.

Looking west along Hendre Road past the Britannia Inn on the left, formerly
"The Railway @ Pencoed". The level crossing splits Pencoed station in two. On the left (SW) side of the level crossing is platform 1 for westbound trains. Platform 2 (eastbound) is on the right (NE) side of the level crossing.

The NE half of Pencoed railway station
Pencoed railway station is split in two by Hendre Road level crossing. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2269966
This view, from the station footbridge, shows platform 2, for eastbound trains.
The platform, on the left side of the tracks, is set back about 80 metres from the level crossing.
The white car has not stalled, but is proceeding across the level crossing.

Barriers down, Hendre Road level crossing, Pencoed
Viewed from the station footbridge. The yellow rear of an Arriva Trains Wales passenger service can be seen at platform 2 (eastbound), Pencoed station. Although the train http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2270036 has cleared the level crossing, the barriers remain down because a westbound train is due to arrive in about a minute.
