Ffaldau Workmen's Institute in Pontycymer
Located in Meadow Street opposite Ivor Street. From a distance looking like a chapel, this Workmen's Institute was erected 1901 to provide miners with a library and reading & meeting rooms. The building was Grade II listed in 1997. Its usage (if any) at the early September 2014 date of this photo is unknown by this contributor. With some windows boarded up, it has an appearance of disuse.

Blaengarw and Pontycymer
View of Blaengarw and Pontycymer from the footpath at the top of the valley. The villages twist and turn as they follow the route which the Garw takes as it winds its way down the valley. In the far distance are the Bristol Channel and England beyond. The really sharp-eyed might like to look for the tall chimney at Aberthaw.
