Vehicles have for many years been prohibited from using much of the route between Ogmore-by-Sea and Norton called Sutton Rise, including the stretch seen here. Despite much of it now being just a path, the route is still shown as a lane on Ordnance Survey and other maps. This is its narrowest stretch. It would surely have been wider when vehicles were permitted, and have subsequently narrowed due to the encroachment of vegetation.

This thoroughfare running between Ogmore-by-Sea and Norton appears as a road or lane on most maps although is clearly far too narrow for any cars, let alone larger vehicles, to use. Maybe it was once driveable but has narrowed over time as a result of the encroachment of vegetation. Vehicles, including motorcycles, are in any case prohibited from using it according to a sign at Ogmore-by-Sea, leaving what is perhaps best described as a pleasant country footpath.

This gate is situated at the point on Sutton Rise beyond (to the east of) which motor vehicles are prohibited. The stretch of Sutton Rise on the other side of it is effectively a path to Norton, although shown as an ordinary lane on Ordnance Survey and other maps – as indeed many years ago it was.

This sign is situated part way along the route Sutton Rise, which runs between Ogmore-by-Sea and Norton. The prohibition of motor vehicles from this point onwards is emphasised by the presence of a gate across the route just around the corner – see Image
