This long-distance view was taken from Newmarket Bridge > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1601381 - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1601503, looking north-west towards the south facade of the cathedral which here is illuminated by the low late November afternoon sunshine. The vast size of the building is best appreciated from a distance.

Russian Cannon
Russian Cannon, captured by British forces during the Crimean war and presented to the people of Ely city by Queen Victoria in 1860, to mark the creation of the Ely rifle volunteers. This Cannon now stands outside Ely Cathedral.
