Neglected pillbox
At the edge of the Ascension burial ground in All Saints' Lane, this wartime relic is barely discernible, flanked by trees and overgrown with ivy. At the edge of the built-up area of Cambridge, looking over what are still open fields of the former University Farm towards the new settlement of Eddington, it was probably one of the many such defence posts erected in haste, in this case to forestall any possible assault on the city by Axis forces arriving (improbably) from the northwest.
