Saffron Walden: Myddleton Place
The Grade I listed timber-framed building was built in the 1490s as a combined house, shop and warehouse. The lucam (or sack hoist) was added early in the 19th century when part of the building was used as a malthouse.

Saffron Walden: at the corner of Castle Street
The uneven tiled roofs hint that these houses are not all they seem and the Grade II listing explains that they are “c 1600 with early/mid-C19 re-fronting”. The carved barge boards and lintels are rather glamorous features of an otherwise austere façade.
