Bewcastle Cross, graveyard & exhibition centre
The Bewcastle: Past and Present exhibition, housed in a converted building in the churchyard of St Cuthbert's church, was opened by Rory Stewart, MP for Penrith and the Border, on 14 March 2014. It is a celebration of over 2500 years of local history - from the Bronze Age to the Roman occupation, through Norman and medieval times, to the Border Reivers and the more peaceful scattered farming community of today. http://www.cumbria24.com/news/2014/03/14/new-exhibition-tiny-village-big-history There is a photo of the mural, an impression of Bewcastle through the ages by Kate Norris, on the inner wall of the exhibition here Image The house behind is the Old Rectory, now a private house which was listed under the name 'Banna', after the Roman Fort of Birdoswald. As it actually stands within the Roman Fort of Bewcastle, a better name might have been, 'Fanum Cocidii'.
