Esk Street, Longtown
Named after the nearby River Esk. Longtown has a somewhat turbulent history, being very close to the Scottish border. The Border Reivers raided the area for cattle and other goods. Longtown has the largest sheep market in England.

The Globe, Longtown - April 2017 (1)
The original Globe is early 19th Century (see: Image] ), but this was closed following acquisition by the State on 1 October 1916. The former pub outbuildings were rebuilt and the pub reopened in these "new" premises on 21 June 1917. Still trading. See also: Image] . Globe Inn
The Globe Inn was nationalised during the Great War in the Carlisle and Gretna area to control the supply of alcohol to workers at the nearby explosives factories. State ownership remained until the 1970s.
