Former "Rose & Crown", Kirkbampton - August 2017 (1)
A carving over the door shows "J&A Sewell 1799", which suggests a building date at the very end of the 18th Century, although there are probably later additions. The pub was State Managed from 1 August 1916 until sold in 1973 for £8,550. Converted from a pub to private dwelling in 1982. See also: Image] .

St Peter's Church, Kirkbampton - Norman chancel arch
The main structure of the building, including this arch, is believed to date back to 1194 when the church was founded http://www.eastsolwaychurches.org/#!st-peters-kirkbampton/cdk . When the photo was taken, the church was hosting an exhibition of quilts.

St. Peter's Church, Kirkbampton - lepers' squint and aumbry
Two small wooden doors set into the wall of the sanctuary. The lepers' squint (left) was originally on an external wall of the church, and enabled sufferers to see the priest celebrating mass without entering the building. Also called a dole window, through which alms could be handed out to the needy. The aumbry (right) was a small safe used to lock up church valuables. In the forefront is a quilt, part of an exhibition of the craft being held in the church that weekend.

St Peter's Church, Kirkbampton - Victorian floor tiles
Located in the sanctuary, in front of the altar. Decorative encaustic tiles with a central motif depicting the Lamb of God, or Agnus Dei. The design looks identical to one produced by Robert Minton Taylor, c.1876, shown here http://thedecoratedtile.wikia.com/wiki/Agnus_Dei_Encaustic_Panel_-_Robert_Minton_Taylor . These are almost the same as an Agnus Dei panel from the early 1840s made by Minton & Co., as seen at Penkhull Church, Stoke-on-Trent http://www.heritagetiling.com/victorian-tile-restoration-other-projects/penkhull-church/ . Some quilts are draped around the area, part of an exhibition being held in the church.
