Guildhall Chambers, 29 Fisher Street
It says Guildhall Offices on the window, but the address today is Guildhall Chambers.
There is a carved inscription above the door : 'Laborare est orare - A.D. mdccclxxiv' (to work is to pray - 1874).
To the right of the doorway, the name of a former occupant survives from Victorian times - see

Kelly's Directory of Cumberland, 1894 http://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/cdm/ref/collection/p16445coll4/id/8881 has an entry at Guild Hall Offices, Fisher Street, for 'Caledonian Railway (traffic offices), William Mather, district traffic supt.'.
The bit of writing visible on the stone today looks like it might have said 'Goods Manager's Office'.

The main doorway, still with original doors. Dated 1874, with the inscription 'Laborare est orare' (Work is prayer). To the right of the door, below the modern sign, is an interesting survival indicating a former occupancy of the offices http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5840623 . Currently a drop-in centre for young people.

Guild Hall Offices, Fisher Street, ghost writing
Indicating that this was at one time the Goods Manager's Office of the Caledonian Railway Co. This must be around 100 years old as the Caledonian Railway ceased to exist as a company with the railway grouping of 1923. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5840598

Former "Old Kings Head", Rosemary Lane - March 2018
Old OS Maps show this as the site of the "Old Kings Head" pub, which is believed to date from the 18th Century. Also known as the "Kings Head", it was acquired by the State Management Scheme on 14 October 1916. At some time, possibly 1966, the pub was refurbished and extended into Fisher Street to give the frontage evident today - see:

Sold to John Smiths Brewing Group on 7 May 1973, the premises are still trading.
