Site of "Coach & Horses Inn", Blackfriars Street - March 2018
First mentioned in 1826 but probably earlier, the "Coach & Horses Inn" was closed by the State Management Scheme on 12 July 1916. Date of demolition has not been found, but nothing remains on the site which is now a modern distribution centre for TESCO. Photograph is for record only - I have no connection with any business seen in this view and cannot advise on their products or services.

Former "White Horse", Blackfriars Street - March 2018
Another pub shown on the 1865 OS Map, the White Horse Inn was closed by the State Management Scheme on 10 October 1916, with the premises becoming part of the Bush Hotel (see: Image] ). What happened next is not currently clear, but the building has either been significantly altered or fully rebuilt post 1916. Unfortunately, no pre-1916 photographs of the premises have been found. Photograph is for record only – I have no connection with any business seen in this view and cannot advise on their products or services.

Statue of James Steel, English Street
Statue to James Steel who was editor of the Carlisle Journal, and mayor 1845 and 1846. The statue was erected in 1859 and is a grade 2 listed structure. James Steel seems to be subject to the fate of all worthy men immortalised in a statue, by suffering the indignity of a seagull perching on top of his head.

Former "Bush Hotel", Victoria Viaduct, Carlisle - June 2017
Built in 1877, a photograph taken in the 1890's shows the building is little altered - excepting the windows on the ground floor and the removal of some skylights. Seems to have closed 1918-19 (it was not State Managed), although its first appearance as a Bank is not until the 1938 OS Map. Photograph is for record only - I have no connection with any business seen in this view and cannot advise on their products or services.
