The Parish Church of St. Lawrence in Appleby
A truly ancient church. The lower sections of tower are 12th. century while the porch and the nave are from the 13th. and 14th. centuries. While still an active place of worship, the church is in the care of English Heritage.

St Lawrence's Church
This church was founded shortly after the castle but was badly damaged by the Scots in 1388(apparently as a result of a drubbing by the English in a team event at a local joust). It was the benevolent Lady Anne Clifford who footed the bill for its repair in the mid 17th century.
