"Big John's" or "The Far House"
I was well acquainted with the eponymous Big John (John McGrath), a giant of wit and wisdom. He ran a great bar and his fame new no bounds. He had a great turn of phrase and in the late 50's it is claimed he decided to introduce Scrumpy into the pub. After a week's trial the project was called off and when a customer asked Big John why this should be so, he replied, "What's the point? Eighteen shillin's in the till and a house full of ~!**?"g madmen!!"

Stables Zion House
It is a pity that this unique building has been allowed to get into such a state. It is located along the main road running through Sion Mills. Perhaps funding may yet be made available to restore it.

Sion Mills Public Elementary School
Opened in 1879, this school was one of the first schools in Northern Ireland to us used by pupils of the two main religions, but is now closed. It would have been closely linked to the linen mill, also now closed. A new primary school carries on the integrated tradition in the Village.
