I was well acquainted with the eponymous Big John (John McGrath), a giant of wit and wisdom. He ran a great bar and his fame new no bounds. He had a great turn of phrase and in the late 50's it is claimed he decided to introduce Scrumpy into the pub. After a week's trial the project was called off and when a customer asked Big John why this should be so, he replied, "What's the point? Eighteen shillin's in the till and a house full of ~!**?"g madmen!!"
