"The Boiler House" apartments, Stewart Street, Belfast (July 2014)
A recently-completed block of housing association apartments, at Stewart Street, close to Central Station. The name comes from a former district heating scheme which once occupied the site. Its chimney can be seen, at upper right, in Image (May 1991). Image shows the same view in an autumn mist.

Irish Rail railcars, Belfast
A six-car set of 29000 class Dublin “Commuter” stock just arrived at Belfast Central (35 minutes late) with the 07.35 Enterprise” from Dublin. The “Enterprise” is usually something more appropriate for inter-city duties Image The 10.15 Gt Victoria Street – Portrush is on the left, at platform 3.

Train entering Central Station, Belfast - 1988
One of NIR's BREL built 80-class sets enters Central Station with a passenger service from Portadown to Bangor. The former Belfast gasworks is prominent in the background, part of this facility later disappearing in a spectacular fireball as the result of a terrorist bomb attack. Little remains of the gasworks site, which has been redeveloped as commercial premises.

Hybrid "Enterprise" at Belfast
From time to time NIR had to borrow CIE/Irish Rail locomotives to work the cross-Border “Enterprise”. IR locomotive 155SA is at the head of eight NIR coaches, in NIR “Inter-City” livery, on the 08.00 to Dublin. See also Image (February 2012).

Departure and arrival, Belfast Central
The 10.35 “Enterprise” to Dublin had just reached the end of platform 2 as the 10.28 Gt Victoria Street – Londonderry was approaching platform 3. This is not supposed to be a simultaneous departure and arrival. The Dublin’s departure was a few minutes late.

"Enterprise" driving trailer, Belfast Central
Image showed the locomotive end of the push-pull Belfast – Dublin “Enterprise”. This is driving trailer (also known by several other names) no 9004. One of four, it has a driver’s cab, seats for 29 “first plus” passengers and space for a wheelchair. It always faces Dublin.
