The Dungannon bypass, Stangmore (1980-1)
The M1 reached Dungannon at the end of 1967. Provision was made for a bypass of the town by building about a mile of dual carriageway as part of the motorway contract. The road remained unused until 1980 when an all-purpose bypass (mainly single carriageway) was finally opened. This view is towards Ballygawley from the eastern side of Stangmore roundabout. The section from the end of the bypass dual carriageway to Ballygawley was eventually rebuilt as a limited-access dual carriageway Image, opening at the end of 2010. Note: the Google map uses blue to show bypass and the road to Ballygawley ie as a motorway. It is really the A4. See also Image

The Dungannon bypass, Stangmore (1980-2)
Image showed the view towards Ballygawley from the eastern bridge on the Stangmore roundabout. This view is in the same direction from the western bridge. The line was built with the intention of providing a motorway but, at the time of the photograph, a single-carriageway bypass was under construction (visible in the background). It opened in October 1980.
