Belfast seems to have missed most of the serious effects of Storm Ali. This tree had fallen across the footpath at the lower end of the Newtownards Road.

Newtownards Road sign, Belfast
This area had become overgrown – so much so that the vegetation had almost completely hidden the sign and most of the fence. It was pruned towards the end of 2010 and the fence repainted from red to the present colour.

Short Strand, Belfast
The Short Strand runs from Bridge End to the Albertbridge Road. Now completely redeveloped. It retains only the Metro bus depot. It once boasted the Mountpottinger tram depot - later to become a Corporation bus depot. The name “Short Strand” is also used to denote the area between here, the Albertbridge Road and Bryson Street.

Sculpture, east Belfast (2)
A sculpture, by Malcolm Robertson, entitled “Let’s Twist Again” at the City East Business Centre
Image on the Newtownards Road. Four metres tall, it depicts a piece of rope cut from fabricated stainless steel, reflecting the rich industrial heritage of the area. Unveiled in December 2009.
