Old hoe, Hezlett House
Detail of the old hoe seen in Image at Hezlett House near Castlerock. One of several at the house, this is a "New Star Hoe" and was made by the Wexford Engineering Company. The company was established in 1847 by millwright and inventor James Pierce, who became famous for his hearth fan. The company went on to employ 1,000 people and exported around the world until it closed in 1980.

Hezlett House
The house, built in 1691 was a rectory until Isaac Hezlett bought it in 1776 as his family home, and it remained in the family for 200 years. It is a cruck frame structure, common in England but rare in Ireland. The interior is furnished in mid-Victorian style.

With a wide grass verge on both sides separating the road from the pedestrian walkways this is a safe area for walkers. To the left of the image is the Binevenagh Area of Outstanding Beauty.
