“Superstore” built on reclaimed land off the Circular Road Image Never the world’s busiest supermarket, there were more vacant than occupied parking spaces when this was taken at 12.30. It now has competition from a new Asda nearby. The one in Carrickfergus Image became a Sainsbury's.

Demolition of Larne (Town) station - 1974 (1)
Designed by Sir Charles Lanyon for the Carrickfergus & Larne Railway, the station at Larne (Town) opened in 1862. It closed in June 1974 as it was in the path of a road development, the railway line being moved out into Larne Lough and a new station opened on 24 June 1974. This view, looking towards Larne Harbour, shows the remains of the main buildings and the signal cabin. Due to the passage of time and elimination of all traces of this site, locations are approximate.

The Circular Road, Larne
An extension of the Circular Road towards the Glenarm and Curran Roads, bypassing the town centre. Built on land reclaimed from Larne Lough in the early 1970’s as part of the construction of the Harbour Highway Image and Image I might be wrong but I seem to remember that the last stretch of the Inver was diverted too.
