Ballynure roundabout 1
The road to Templepatrick/Belfast International Airport and Londonderry leaves the Larne-Belfast road near Ballynure. Traffic on the “B” road from Carrickfergus joined the road by travelling through the village. A road bypassing the village opened in 2005 taking this traffic to a new roundabout to the south. This is the view from the Belfast direction with the roads to Templepatrick and Carrickfergus out of sight to the left and right respectively.

Jonathan Swift plaque, Ballynure
See Image Although Swift was attached to a church at Kilroot, near Carrickfergus, his parish included Ballynure and it is said that he regularly preached in the village. Ballynure is now a parish in the diocese of Connor. So far as I know nothing remains of the old church at Kilroot. This plaque is attached to the old church at Ballynure. See http://www.ulsterhistory.co.uk/swift.htm.

Ballynure Cotton Mill
This mill is listed as a cotton mill on the 1830, 1840 and 1860 OS maps. The 28ft diameter waterwheel which was to the left of the building drove some 9600 spindles on the spinning machines. By 1900 the mill had been converted to a beetling mill. It was destroyed by fire soon after and no machinery remains.
