Old Turn sign, Carrickfergus
Before the building of the coast road in the early 1840’s, the road from Carrickfergus to Larne ran inland via Ballycarry. I’ll speculate that the section from here to Downshire came along later and that what is now the Old Turn was part of the original coast road. If any local historians, or similar, have a definitive answer please let me know.
