Train at Monkstown station
One of NIR's ancient MPD railcar sets approaches Monkstown station with a train from York Road to Ballymena. On the left can be seen the junction with the former "back line" to Greenisland, once part of the main line from Belfast to Londonderry but displaced in 1934 with the opening of a more direct route over Bleach Green viaduct. The "back line" officially closed on 1 October 1963.

70-class set approaching Monkstown station
Headed by No. 76 "River Inver" (built by UTA 1967) a 6-car 70-class set forming the 12.00 Sunday only passenger service from Londonderry (Waterside) to Belfast (York Road) approaches the site of Monkstown station.
