Newry's tribute to the Irish Navvy
Unveiled in 2011 the statue of the Irish Navvy is the work of the sculptor Barry Linnane. The sculptor stated that, ‘The Newry Navigator proposal depicts a typical navvy, his tools, luggage and culture, reflecting a life of hard labour and emigration'. The statue stands by the Canal bridge in Sugar Island.

Newry's tribute to the Irish Navvy
This statue represents the hundreds of thousands of Irishmen who were engaged throughout these islands and beyond in building canals, railways, roads and ports. Unveiled in 2011 it is the work of the sculptor Barry Linnane.
