The Spelga Dam
Construction of the dam in the early 190s presented some tricky engineering problems. As the building progressed it was found that the foundations were sinking into the bedrook - as much as 40m at some points.

The Spelga Dam
The dam was commissioned in the early 1950s by the Portadown & Banbridge Regional Waterworks Joint Board and was constructed by the Laing Group.

Cut bench mark on a granite wall close to the car park at Spelga Dam.

The Spelga Dam
The dam holds back about 600 million gallons of water from the upper Bann catchment area which is supplied to the Portadown and Banbridge areas.
