Believed to be from the 19th century, the former British legion club (listed as HB18/03/031) at 9 Catherine Street, is now advertised “for sale”. The agents’ brochure describes it as “Excellent refurbishment/development opportunity in a prominent location”. This photograph appears as a matter of record only. I have no connection with any of the parties involved in the sale.

Statue to Sir Hans Sloane
Set in the middle of a green in a beautiful old corner of Killyleagh. Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753) was born in Killyleagh of Ulster-Scots descent. Physician (FCP), collector (FRS) and philanthropist, he was a polymath of a sort not seen nowadays. Amongst other notable facts about his life, he is credited with inventing milk chocolate, whilst Sloane Square in London is named after him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Sloane
