Former Ballynahinch Junction station (1983-2)
See Image The view, also from the Junction Road overbridge, showing the two Orenstein & Koppel steam locomotives mounted on a short piece of track. They had originally worked for Comhlucht Suicre Eireann/The Irish Sugar Company and were acquired with the intention of reopening part the line as a preserved railway. Nothing happened. The engines eventually found their way to Downpatrick Image

Former Ballynahinch Junction station (1983-1)
See Image (March 1980). Three years later and the station's building had deteriorated to the extent that part of the former passenger station no longer existed. The view is towards Comber and Belfast. When open the station had this island platform connected to the down platform (right) by a footbridge upon which the down starting signals were mounted. Trains for the Ballynahinch branch used the face on the left. The remains of the water tower are at top left. The station buildings are on the right and, behind them, the base of the signal cabin. The station existed as a junction. Local passenger traffic was minimal. Image (November 2008) shows the post-demolition view. Image shows the view from the other side of the bridge.

Ballynahinch Junction Station
What is left of the Ballynahinch Junction Station, closed in 1950. The farmer who owns the land has cleared anything that was left of the station building and the signal box, he has also filled in the track bed and demolished the platforms. There had been talk of this being re-opened as a heritage museum but all that looks hopeless now.
