Lyndon Court, Belfast
Built (as I remember but I might be wrong) in the early 1980’s, in Queen Street, in the recognition that it was not just Government departments and financial institutions who needed office space. It appealed to smaller employers. One of the attractions was what the agents called “own-door offices” ie no shared access via a reception area. Times change and there is now a planning application for “Demolition of existing building and erection of four-storey mixed-use development comprising retail units at ground floor and office space on upper floors.” Continue to Image

Nos 41-49 Queen Street, Belfast (1)
See Image Planning permission was given recently to demolish this unlisted building at 41-49 Queen Street – a former linen warehouse reputedly built in 1911 ie coming towards the end of the era of the expansion of the linen trade in Belfast. The intention is to replace it with a nine-storey building of apartments and shops. There was a previous permission, in 1998, for an eight-storey office building. There is some opposition to the demolition. (Note: this sequence of photographs appears as a matter of record only and should not be interpreted as indicating any personal views for or against the demolition and replacement). Continue to Image

A building, between Queen Street (foreground), College Street (right) and Fountain Street, built with shops on the ground and first floors. Known for its musical clock Image, the site can be seen, immediately before work started, in Image (August 1976).
