"The Bru", Shankill Jobs & Benefits Centre
On Snugville Street. The term 'bru' for a Jobcentre is very much unique to Belfast - particularly the west of the city. It derives from the days when an Employment Exchange was known as a 'bureau' - 'bru' being a comical mispronunciation of the word. The term was popularised in a BBC comedy series by James Young in the 1970s ("Our Jimmie").

Riga Street, Belfast
Redeveloped in the 1980s. Looking towards Carnan Street. Riga Street once continued further to become Lower Riga Street - however a residential home now stands in the way.
