St Edyth's Road, Sea Mills
Showing the junction with Shirehampton Road at the heart of the Sea Mills Estate; immediately ahead is the methodist church. Sea Mills is a good example of an inter-war estate developed on garden city principles; building began in 1920 and continued into the 1930s. Housing densities are low and there is plenty of green space, although amenities can be sparse. Although still a pleasant environment, estates such as these fell out of favour in the second half of the 20th century as people aspired to private housing usually further out of the city; as a result Sea Mills became one of the more deprived areas of Bristol.

Sea Mills Methodist Church and Abona Court, Bristol
Located on the north side of Shirehampton Road between West Parade and East Parade, Sea Mills Methodist Church dates from 1930. Abona Court, part of which can be seen on the right, opened in 2007. There are 21 one- and two-bedroom apartments. Abona Court also has a conservatory, communal lounge, guest room and a lift. The apartments adjoin the church hall on the eastern edge of the church. Abona Court was developed by MHA (a provider of not-for-profit care homes, housing and support services for older people) in association with the church.

Cafe on the Square is a project from Sea Mills Community Initiatives, a charity set up by the churches in Sea Mills. The cafe is staffed by churchgoers and also by people from the wider local community.
