Showing the junction with Shirehampton Road at the heart of the Sea Mills Estate; immediately ahead is the methodist church. Sea Mills is a good example of an inter-war estate developed on garden city principles; building began in 1920 and continued into the 1930s. Housing densities are low and there is plenty of green space, although amenities can be sparse. Although still a pleasant environment, estates such as these fell out of favour in the second half of the 20th century as people aspired to private housing usually further out of the city; as a result Sea Mills became one of the more deprived areas of Bristol.
